Description

Hankuk Polytech metal domes are incorporated into membrane switches and control panels to provide the user with positive (snap action) feedback that switch closure has occurred. Unlike many other manufacturers, our domes are an intregal part of the contact system which provides true feedback that the contact has been made. Upon actuation, the dome is deflected over the center to make contact with the lower circuit layer, thereby completing an electrical circuit and providing a snap response. Hankuk Polytech designs and manufactures its own metal domes and utilizes proprietary automation equipment to place the dome into the assembly, thereby eliminating contamination and dome nesting.

Benefits

  • Positive (snap action) feedback to ensure switch closure
  • 3 self wiping contacts and a high force center butt contact
  • Domes are placed with automated equipment, eliminating contamination and dome nesting
  • Robotic placement provides cost savings

The metal dome is placed directly over the individual switch contact. Pressing down on the dome results in a temporary deformation of the dome from convex to concave, producing the tactile and audio click we have come to identify with membrane switches.

Metal domes come in a variety of sizes, configurations (disc, pyramid etc.) and activation pressures. However, metal domes can add significantly to the cost of the membrane switch, due to both the increase in material and labour costs during fabrication of the switch.
